Hematite is an iron mineral widely distributed in nature and the main mineral form of iron oxide. Its iron content is as high as 70%, and it is an important iron-making raw material. The composition of hematite ore is complex and involves a variety of mineral species, so there are many hematite beneficiation processes. Commonly used beneficiation methods include gravity separation process, flotation process, magnetic separation process, roasting magnetic separation process and combined process flow, etc. .
The hematite gravity separation process mainly includes coarse grain gravity separation and fine grain gravity separation.
Coarse grained gravity separation is suitable for treating deposits with high geological grade but thin ore bodies or many interlayers. Such deposits are easily mixed with waste rock, resulting in a decrease in the grade of hematite ore and depletion. Therefore, in the process of beneficiation, it is only broken but not ground. Gravity separation is carried out when the particle size of the hematite is relatively coarse, and the coarse tailings are discarded to improve the grade.
Fine-grained gravity separation is suitable for processing hematite ore with fine particle size and high magnetic content. After crushing and grinding, it enters the gravity separation process to obtain fine-grained concentrate.
The hematite flotation process is suitable for the separation of fine-grained and fine-grained hematite, mainly including positive flotation and reverse flotation.
Hematite positive flotation uses anionic collectors to separate iron minerals from raw ore, which can directly discard coarse tailings without desliming. Positive flotation has the advantages of simple medication and low beneficiation cost. However, it takes several cleanings to get qualified hematite concentrate, and the foam is easy to stick, so the product is not easy to concentrate and filter.
Hematite reverse flotation uses cations or anions to separate gangue minerals from raw ore. The anion collector reverse flotation method is suitable for treating hematite with high grades and gangue minerals that float easily. The cationic collector reverse flotation method is suitable for treating hematite with high grade and complex composition.
The weak-strong magnetic separation method is commonly used in the hematite magnetic separation process, which is suitable for the mixed ore of hematite-magnetite. The general process is that the raw ore is crushed and ground into the weak magnetic separation process, and the weak magnetic separation tailings are concentrated and then subjected to strong magnetic roughing and sweeping to obtain strong magnetic rough concentrate. The strong magnetic rough concentrate enters the strong magnetic separator for selection after concentration.
The hematite roasting magnetic separation method is suitable for processing hematite ore with finer particle size and lower content of useful and harmful elements. The general process is to magnetize and roast the ore to convert hematite or pseudo-hematite into magnetite with strong magnetic properties, and then use a weak magnetic separator for sorting.
The above are the more commonly used beneficiation methods for hematite processing. However, due to the complex composition of hematite, when a single beneficiation process cannot achieve a better beneficiation index, a combination of multiple beneficiation processes can be selected.
