Mining Gold in Nigeria

Gold mining in Nigeria is largely unregulated and undertaken by small-scale artisanal miners, who are responsible for most of the country's gold production. Gold deposits are found in several parts of Nigeria, including Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, and Osun states. 

The small-scale miners typically use rudimentary techniques, including panning and digging with hand tools, and often work in hazardous conditions with no regard for safety or the environment. The lack of regulation and oversight has resulted in a high incidence of lead poisoning in some of the mining areas. The Nigerian government has taken steps to formalize and regulate the sector, but the challenges are significant.
